Course Description

Robert Seath, Clinical Director at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy, has spent over twenty years in general dental practice. Combining clinical practice with roles as a Foundation Dental trainer and undergraduate clinical teacher. More recently he has transferred to a full time role at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy, where he splits his time between clinical teaching and his role as a Clinical Director. Robert is also the CPD lead at the Dental Academy.

As an advocate of peer review and evidence based learning he has a keen interest in the development and delivering of continuing professional development across the whole dental team.

The new continuing professional development standards of the General Dental Council include the requirement to maintain a personal development plan (PDP). Whilst PDPs have been an acknowledged part of CPD for a number of years, many people will not have had the need to create an individual PDP before. The course would be of interest to all GDC registrants who wish to gain the knowledge necessary to be able to confidently prepare and maintain a PDP.

By attending this course the candidates will

  1. Understand the reasons for the introduction of PDPs
  2. Identify the benefits of having a PDP
  3. Identify the component sections of a PDP
