Course Description



Nikki Legg RDN, qualified in 2007 with an NVQ 3 in oral health care. 13 years experience. Experience of working in both NHS and private practice. Nikki Works on the staff dental nurse team for UPDA supervising and assisting dental nurse students, hygiene and therapy students and dental students. Nikki is the owner of a small photography business and is studying for a Bsc in psychology and counselling. Nikki has extended duties in; radiography, clinical photography, impression taking, topical fluoride application, rubber dam placement and oral hygiene education


This course will teach delegates how to use DSLR equipment to produce good, quality images. It will enable them to understand camera settings and functions and give them basic knowledge of general photography. The practical aspect of the course will show delegates correct positioning of retractors and mirrors, how to use this equipment to get good images and the types of images they may wish to use as their standard record of the patient. The course will teach delegates about digital storing, file format and what memory cards are best. We will also discuss data protection, what is appropriate and what is inappropriate regards to equipment and how we share information.


This course will aim to

  1. provide guidance, information and advice on choosing appropriate camera equipment for practice.
  2. demonstrate the use of photography as a diagnostic, marketing and educational tool in practice.
  3. provide appropriate, basic camera skills in dental photography and general photography
