Course Description

Mrs. Sue Hadley qualified in 1999 as a dental nurse.  Her career progression is exemplary. After extensive experience in a private practice she joined the Dental Academy in 2007. She is currently the deputy senior nurse and  a DCP clinical teaching fellow at the University of Portsmouth.  She has gained extended duties qualifications in impression taking, radiography, fluoride application, rubber dam placement, suture removal, sedation and 4 handed dentistry.
Dr. Martin Colley BDS(Lond) LDS RCS (Eng)  FHEA  has a wealth of experience as a general dental practitioner in both NHS and private sectors.  He owned and led a practice for 25 years. He is a clinical tutor teaching final year undergraduates for King’s College London and a clinical teaching fellow at the University of Portsmouth teaching hygiene therapists.

GDC scope of practice states that dental care professionals can now perform  extended duties including impression taking after appropriate training.
DCP’s undertaking impressions report increased job satisfaction and feel an increased sense of being part of a team. DCPs undertaking extended duties in addition to their own personal development can free up the dentists time which can be beneficial to providing quality dental care.

By attending this course the candidates will
1. Understand the use of alginate impression taking and patient selection
2. Gain competence in the technique of  impression taking and to evaluate the impression
3. Learn how to communicate effectively with the dental laboratory

Immediately after the course a certificate of attendance will be issued for 6 hours of CPD.

Please note if you are attending this course as an extended duties course and not as  refresher:
In order to gain a certificate of competence you will need to bring with you a letter of support from your supervising dentist/mentor stating they are happy to support you with the completion of a portfolio. Once you have completed the course you will need to submit evidence of: 20 impressions (10 patients) within an individually agreed time frame (to be confirmed at the course)
