Practice educators in social work are guided by the Practice education professional standards (PEPs), this course provides the opportunity for HCPC registered social workers to undertake the responsibilities of a practice educator, the course seeks to provide candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge to support students on their first (70 day) practice learning experience (PEPs stage 1)

Course Description

This is one of two short courses - Practice Education in social work (unit 2) - Both courses are required to meet PEPs at stage 2.

This course enables candidates to demonstrate competence and critically reflect upon elements of Domain B of the PEPs - Enable learning and professional development in practice. The course will enable consideration of concepts and models of supervision, developing sustainable supervisory relationships, creating a challenging and supportive supervisory environment.

The course involves 5 days over 5 months and support of a learner on their first placement, and runs from January to June. The course gives 30 credits at M level and is assessed via a portfolio of evidence which includes direct observation, reflective accounts and assessment reports.
